Using Open Source Software Results in Savings for Our Customers | ||
CyberEd Corp. uses off the shelf Open Source technology in all of our products. We wanted to minimize the costs by providing a framework that does not require expensive per-user licensing. We use best of breed components and provide full support for the underlying architecture.
Total Cost of Ownership is a hot subject these days. Using software components which carry no license fees save our customers significant sums of money.
Support for the Open Source components and our Software is covered by means of a service agreement which outlines the level and type of support needed.
Our software is not Open Source in the traditional sense, we do not publish our source code on web sites such as SourceForge to protect our customers. We do provide full source code to our customers. We utilize a source only distribution method. Providing a source only distribution removes binary compatibility issues and ensures our customers absolute compatibility with existing libraries.
CyberEd Corp. license's its software on a per server basis. All of our products come with 90 days of support. Additional support is covered under contact.
The Operating System Component`s | ||
We use the Linux Operating System as the basis for all of our stand-alone products. Linux has proven to be reliable, stable and most of all, secure. We have over 9 years of Linux experience and 20 years of Unix Experience. Our distribution of choice is Mandrake. Mandrake offers the best distribution suited to our server needs. The Database Component | ||
Our stand-alone products require the use of database technology to store and retrieve information. We prefer to use Postgresql for all of our database needs. We have found Postgresql to be fast and reliable. Information about Postgresql can be found at Postgres Home Page.

CyberEd Corp. uses the Java programming language from Sun as the basis for all application server developement. Information about Java can be found at Sun`s Java Home Page.
Security Component | ||
CyberEd Corp. software is designed with security in mind. We provide secure solutions tailored to the needs of our customers. Our servers are hardened with the latest security patches and attention to detail. If a service is not required for a particular customer then the service is shutdown on the server.
CyberEd Corp. uses SSL (Secure Socket Layer) access for web applications. This ensures that all web traffic is encrypted using the standard https protocol.
Most enterprise systems have authentication in the form of Active Directory from Microsoft, or use LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) to manage users and passwords. Our software plugs into these authentication methods to provide easy user management.
