Features and Benefits | ||
SSIS is a system designed to record and manage information on individual students receiving special education services.
CyberEd uses off the shelf Open Source technology in this project. We wanted to minimize the costs by providing a framework that does not require expensive per-user licensing. The Application component runs under Java WebStart (tm) and is used for administrative functions of the system. The application handles all exporting to state systems, lookup code maintenance, user maintenance, and student management. The Web Publishing component provides an easy to use browser based system for teachers and building administrators. Web Publishing provides the framework for forms based publishing. The Web Reporting component provides for easy retrieval of standard reports in a PDF format.
SSIS is ready to serve Regional Service Providers with new features. Attendance, Enrollment, Budgeting, and associated reporting are now part of SSIS.

Once the database is populated, the Local Education Agency (LEA) can use it to develop and convey the special education service activity reports required by the State Education Agency (SEA). The LEA can also make custom queries of the SSIS database not of particular use to an SEA, but of special interest locally.
An example would be a district's suspension and expulsion practices regarding students with disabilities. Fields within individual student records are designed to accommodate this information. A report on these practices could be a matter of possible interest to a local school board, but not of particular interest to an SEA.
Special query information is exported into a comma delimited file that can then be read and formatted by a relational database program such as MS Access or Excel. This export data can then be manipulated to suit the LEA needs.
